The Sunrise Wedding of Catherine and Brett
Here was a unique idea; getting married at sunrise on Bowen Island! Have the ceremony right when the sun pop's the horizon, have an afternoon siesta, follow with the reception at night.
I was very excited about getting up to shoot a sunrise wedding, that is until my alarm went off at 5 am! Once I got over the initial shock and arrived at the ceremony, I realized what a special time of day this was for Catherine and Brett, and I was witnessing something precious. It reminded me that many of my favourite moments in life started with some resistance.
It's a testament to Brett and Catherine that their family and friends not only oblige a morning ceremony, but to be there heart and soul with excitement and energy. Everything at the wedding was created by the couple and family themselves, including the vegan cake and all the exquisite food right down to the table decorations and carvings. The flowers were local, and even Catherine's dress was her great grandmother's. There are obviously artists at work here, creativity abounded. The day felt like two, and both of them were full and rewarding.
I made this my first green wedding package. I'll post some photos of this, but in essence I didn't use my vehicle, but cycled with all my gear to and from Bowen island. It was great fun and a conscious effort to be more carbon neutral. It fit well with the theme of their wedding as well.
